Some people are worried that what they post may be seen by an unintended audience like what can happen with Facebook.
With Facebook, for example, "friends" settings are set to public as a default and although you only select certain friends, friends of friends can see your friends. There is a lot more opportunity to share personal information and you have to be somewhat computer savvy to check your privacy settings for each application or feature of Facebook. You could inadvertently let "friends of friend" see personal information and open your self up to the world. This depends upon your own computer skills and abilities.
With this HPC network, all the default settings for each group are set to be private for each group. Anonymous users cannot become members. Membership has to be approved by me (the administrator) and I check to make sure people are entitled to be a member of your group. Only the material you are allowed to see will be visible on the network and this is different for every member depending upon with group or groups they belong. Your profile information and picture is shown at the bottom of the screen when you log in. You can choose what information about you is displayed and only network members see your profile.
The only exceptions are that the administrator can see everything and in some cases by special request, we allow anonymous users to post to a selected forum. Please see the Site and Privacy Policy at the bottom of every network page.
