Proposed Chronic Disease & Injury Prevention Alliance of Nova Scotia
HPC Network Home
In the fall of 2005, discussions began among representatives of several organizations about the need for a chronic disease and injury prevention (CDIP) alliance in Nova Scotia, similar to alliances that exist in other provinces. In the winter of 2006, Nova Scotia Health Promotion and Protection hired a consultant to explore the feasibility of creating an alliance in Nova Scotia.
Through a series of key informant interviews and meetings with potential founding members, it was determined that there is interest in forming a Nova Scotia alliance that focuses on collaborative action on the social determinants of health. By the end of 2007, work on Phase 1 of this initiative culminated in a proposed organizational model for discussion with a wider range of stakeholders who may be interested in participating in the development of the Alliance. In 2008, a Steering Committee comprised of volunteers took the lead to engage health promotion stakeholders in dialogue about the proposed purpose, structure and funding models for the Alliance.
